I attended my flu jab appointment at the White Cliffs Pharmacy, 141 Folkestone Road, Dover CT17 9SG on 3 October, 2025 at 12.30pm.
I had to wait in line to register that I was there. The pharmacy staff were racing around and it looked like absolute chaos… not professional at all. As far as I could see there were four members of staff on duty. One customer was told that their prescription was lost and that they would investigate and let her know.
I waited 10 minutes before being called into the consulting room. I then sat there for another 10 minutes waiting for the pharmacist. I heard the member of staff say to the pharmacist that she had four people waiting for flu jabs but she still didn’t come. In the end she walked into the consulting room without introducing herself and said, what are you here for today. She went on the computer and asked my name etc. she then asked what I was having and why was I eligible… surely it says on the computer and I can’t book an appointment unless I’m eligible? Her manner was curt and brisk, not caring or kind at all.
She then didn’t wash for sanitise her hands nor wear gloves. She then got the injection ready and I was worried about cross-contamination as she had just interacted with people at the counter. She then came towards me with the syringe, holding it like a dart. She then literally threw it at my arm like a dart board and pressed it in. Then she said, that’s it, you can go. I went over to the people waiting for the jab and said to them that this was horrendous and barbaric… and they said, yes, did she throw it at you. It just shows that she does this all the time.
On the way back to work I could feel something on or in my arm and I thought maybe it was the injection. To my horror, and that of my colleagues, I had blood all over my arm and my shirt. This morning I woke to find bruising all around the site of the injection. I realise there can be a reaction but not bruising. I feel was treated dreadfully with no empathy or kindness. I felt that she really did not want to inject people and wanted to remain distant from me, as if the whole process was distasteful to her. I feel she was unprofessional and didn’t seem to know the basics of a sterile environment… I could have caught anything! She should not be allowed to carry out injections at all.
I went back to the pharmacy after work to get the name of the pharmacist. I described the incident to a member of staff who made no comment. The pharmacist overheard and came forward apologising and asked if I wanted to talk to her supervisor. I said I want to make a formal written complaint to the overseeing body and the NHS. This I am doing. I was very unhappy about the service I received.
